The Equine Academy

After School Program

1 st quarter January 4th-April 2nd

Grades 7th-12th

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

3:45pm - 5:45pm

The Equine Academy at Thompson Therapy is about more than just riding. Our hands-on approach to learning imbues our students with real confidence and skill in handling and riding horses. Rather than a weekly riding lesson, our Equine Academy kids are immersed into the world of horses and will be developing the foundational knowledge of true horse people. This after school program is a unique opportunity for kids to safely master the principles of Natural Horsemanship while having fun and developing their team working skills.

Instructed by Dr. Dial and trainer Callie Schaffner, students focus on developing a specific set of skills each month to master before moving on to the next month's curriculum. Each class culminates in a Horsemanship Skills Demonstration. Upon successful completion of the three month course, and Skills Demonstration, students receive a Junior Level Certificate of Graduation and totem from The Equine Academy.

Some of the main areas of focus will be:

  • Horse handling

  • Ground work

  • Horse care

  • Equine anatomy

  • Equine psychology & herd behavior

  • Horseback riding

  • Grooming, tacking, & bridling

  • Emergency horse care

  • Situational awareness

  • Character development

  • Team working skills

  • Leadership skills

  • Safety protocol

Students must commit to the three-month quarter program. Tuition for the program can be paid in full at registration ($1,725.00,) or auto-withdrawn on a per-month basis ($575.) Students will be provided with a workbook and itinerary at the beginning of each quarter to help them stay on track, and successfully complete the course.

Admittance to the course requires a consultation and evaluation with Dr. Dial. Consultations may be scheduled here.
